as -- it happened at a school in arlington, texas. >> reporter: watch this surveillance video closely. it shows a special needs student going up a ramp and seconds later tumbling down. the student in the video is 18- year-old payton jared. in early april, he was pushed down these steps by another special needs student. >> he was knocked unconscious. jazz students were lot alone. eight of them were being supervised by three adults, one teacher and two teaching assistants. payton suffered a number of injuries. and his family was just told he has severe brain damage. >> this wasn't just a simple he got hurt and they put a band aid on it and the boo boo is fix. he is hurt. ask it's going to be for a while. we don't know how long. >> reporter: the cost of payton's medical care is skyrocketing. the family has needed everything from a new wheelchair. >> that could have easily been my daughter. >> reporter: tim with a nonprofit group made up of drag racers. when they heard about payton, they wanted to help and started a facebook page. >> my own daughter, you know? she can't communicate. i mea
